NEW FORMAT FOR MAGIC 99
Rawlco Radio has been successful in seucring the blessings of the CRTC to change their failed "Smooth Jazz" format.  Starting "September", they will continue to target "affluent adults 35-64" with "more mainstream" music.  On the heels of the success of sister station 102.3 Now FM, they may have soemthing there!

NEW BRANDING FOR EZ-ROCK
My spies spied this gem on the streeets of Edmonton.  After countless years of the EZ Rock branding, a change!

A NEW BRANDING FOR CORUS, too?
Utterly unsubstantiated rumours that Corus is changing its branding.

Corus recently announced a "new Management Committee" on May 10, 2010 "to streamline decision-making and clarify roles and mandates. To this end, we are announcing changes to our Television, Radio and Corporate Management teams."

NO WORD ON WHO TAKES THE SCHEETZ SEAT
CISN 103.9 FM Edmonton's legendary morning man, Bruce Bowie will replace Gord Whitehead as the morning man on 630 CHED after August 31st.

Long time 630 CHED Morning News host Gord Whitehead announced that he will be retiring, effective, September 1. A 40 year radio veteran, and the only morning show host 630 CHED has had since introducing its news-talk format in 1993, Whitehead’s last on-air broadcast will be heard on Tuesday, August 31.

Filling the vacancy on the CISN COUNTRY morning show is longtime CISN afternoon host Chris Scheetz. A long time ratings leader in the afternoon time slot and well known for his attention-drawing stunts and promotions along with his community involvement, Scheetz is looking forward to the next stage of his career. Scheetz will officially join Sean Burke and Leslie Stein on Monday, August 30 at 5:30 a.m.

So, who takes over for Scheetz on drive at CISN?  Our spies tell us that decision has not yet been made - or announced, at the very least.

SOUND FM POACHING WESTERN TALENT
www.thesound.ca
New Edmonton radio station CKEA-FM (95.7 The Sound) is rumoured to be poaching some pretty impressive talent from around western Canada.

Matt Schichter (from Calgary's defunct Fuel) Seanna Jefferson (Edge Toronto), Karen Kay (Juice Kelowna/K-Rock Edmonton), Amanda Purcell (The River in Fort Mac), Ryan Bradley (Joe FM)

From the looks of the hires... The Zone, Sonic, Fuel, Edge... definitely looks like a "Modern Rock" hybrid going after The Bear and Sonic.

GENERAL RADIO GOSSIP
  • Tim Riess leaves evenings at Capital FM for Rawlco.  Magic or Now FM?
  • Dan & Jamie, mornings at EZ Rock North Bay are heading to Edmonton
